CarbonX is now ClimeFi

CarbonX, a leading  player in the carbon removal market since 2022, is rebranding as ClimeFi. The name change is a reflection of the tremendous growth of the company and our evolving mission to tackle and support a range of carbon removal (CDR) and related climate financing solutions on a global scale.

Since inception, CarbonX has been a trusted partner of global corporations including Adyen, Boston Consulting Group, and Euronext to help build and manage their dedicated CDR portfolios. We have engaged across all major removal pathways including Direct Air Capture, Biomass removals (BiCRS), Enhanced Weathering, Ocean CDR to collectively purchase over 80,000 tonnes of permanent removals. In an effort to expand our reach we have recently raised strategic funding from investors including  ENGIE, Redstone, and Profounders to help grow the team and our service offering to clients.

With all this progress, the need to change the name of the company became important to reflect this evolution and to avoid confusion with the many similarly named companies in the sector. The name change also provides us with the opportunity to update our business offerings to reflect our new operational model, focusing on :

  1. Intelligence: Providing objective data and analytics to the market to guide buy-side decisions
  2. Projects: Exclusively representing the interests of buyers to secure access to the best CDRs
  3. Portfolio Management: Offering specialized expertise and experience to actively manage portfolios of permanent CDRs on behalf of individual companies and buyer coalitions

To bolster these objectives, ClimeFi welcomes three key additions to the team:

  • Philip Moss, former Chairman and Managing Director of NextGen CDR & Global Director for CDR at South Pole, joins as Chief Investment Officer. He will oversee ClimeFi's rollout of collective CDR portfolios and work on  high level engagement with the corporate C-suite to cultivate additional CDR demand.
  • Victoria Harvey, instrumental in leading and designing the BeZero Carbon ratings for engineered carbon removals, joins as CDR Strategy Lead and will strengthen ClimeFi's due diligence and assessment processes for project onboarding.
  • Sarah Mateu, with a background in Climate and Engineering, joins the Operations team to provide additional insight and capacity for due diligence and portfolio management.

These strategic appointments and refined focus signal ClimeFi's ambition to become the leading portfolio manager for permanent CDRs. The company is poised for significant growth and we look forward to engaging with our stakeholders in this new phase of development.
